La Playa Hotel SERVPRO of Evergreen Park / South Chicago City
David Mason is the manager of the Commercial Large Loss Team with the SERVPRO of Evergreen Park / South Chicago City franchise office. For the last month, he and his team have operated out of Naples, Florida. They arrived just after Hurricane Irma blew through and have been in place to help put local businesses back together and get their doors reopened.
His team is working on the LaPlaya Hotel, and David is detailing just how much damage they found once on the site. Their initial inspection found that fifteen floors of the hotel had at least some storm damage and the lower floors were in particularly bad shape.
After a week of working on the LaPlaya, David is pleased with the progress, but he and his team still have a long way to go. They finished demolition and the clean-up. They still need to complete rebuilding and helping install new appliances and fixtures.
In addition to his team, David has also received temporary help from over 180 temporary workers called in to assist with efforts. Some of them are on the LaPlaya job now and have been instrumental in helping David and his team to meet the SERVPRO goal of restoring the hotel and eliminating the damage “Like it never even happened.”
Reopening the LaPlaya and other hotels are vital to the economic recovery of Naples and other affected parts of the state. After a month, there are still local business owners and residents who have to drive an hour or more every day to check on their businesses, homes, and other property. Every hotel and motel David and his team help reopen provides local, temporary housing for those displaced residents and business owners. Every open business puts needed dollars in the cities where it is needed the most.
