Team Zubricki's Coordinated Response to a Large Loss Fire

With more than 70 technicians gathering from all Zubricki SERVPRO franchises around Chicago and down to Florida, Patricia Zubricki brought our restoration force together to discuss the past year's Large Loss event. The group was developing ideas and methods for more efficiently and effectively performing under various conditions. Then an out-of-state, 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility suffered fire damage during our training event, and we did what we do best: dropped everything to help.

Team Zubricki operates a massive warehouse facility shared by all our local Chicago franchises to deploy technicians and specialists rapidly. In this case, mobilizing the Green Fleet of vehicles meant coordinating a substantial roster of trained technicians, dozens of service vehicles, and hundreds of pieces of specialized equipment to manage the smoke damage the facility faced.

Several images in the video depict the earliest measures our SERVPRO of Evergreen Park / South Chicago City took when arriving at the manufacturing complex, including covering every piece of equipment against circulating soot and smoke solids. Much of the soot in these scenarios is acidic and corrosive, which can be ruinous to exposed equipment – even the stainless-steel machines shown throughout the footage.

Our staging outside the facility resulted in a fast, deliberate performance inside the building utilizing the right tools and products. A slide in the video shows our 40 ft. rapid response trailer we keep stocked with a range of mitigation machines and personal protective equipment:

• Gloves
• Boots

When it came to cleaning the surfaces exposed, nearly every inch of the facility needed to be evaluated and restored. We utilized multiple lifts to reach smoke-damaged beams, rafters, and utilities. Because of the volatile environment in the earliest stages, our team is shown in full protective gear to prevent soot inhalation and exposure to dangerous environmental conditions during cleanup.
